Kathmandu, Feb 24: Two independent Maoist groups
in Nepal have decided to join hands to form a 'nationalist
party' which could work for the welfare of the people.
Terai leader Matrika Yadav, who broke the Unified
CPN-Maoist last month and Mani Thapa, who heads Revolutionary
Left Wing (RLW), the breakaway faction of UCPN-M, have decided
to merge their parties to form the new party.
The decision was taken at a two-day meeting here in
which representatives of both parties participated, Mani Thapa
said, the Kathmandu Post reported.
"We have decided to join with Matrika and establish a
revolutionary Communist party," he said. "We think that
continuity should be given to People's War until its agenda
are implemented."
The Maoists had presented 40 point demands which
includes scrapping of the Indo-Nepal Peace and Friendship
Treaty of 1950, abolishing Mahakali Treaty, controlling of
Indo-Nepal border, scrapping the controversial citizenship act
and return of territories allegedly encroached by India.
Their other demand includes, issuing work permit to
foreign job seekers, banning Hindi cinema in Nepal,
prohibiting Indian number plate vehicles from plying.
The RLW has claimed that some 350 representatives from
over 50 districts participated in its convention. Matrika, who
claims to have organisation in 20 districts of Terai, has also
warned to take up arms if the government fails to address the
issues raised by the Terai people.
