India's only individual Olympic gold medalist, Abhinav Bindra has tweeted that Day 4 of the Asian Games will be his last day as a professional shooter. Abhinav had recently won a gold medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow. His last event for India will be 10m Air Rifle tomorrow.

17:00 IST: After securing India's maiden women's singles squash medal at the Asian Games, a vindicated Dipika Pallikal has said she will continue to fight against the "manipulated" draw with higher authorities after being let down by the officials back home. Pallikal, who lost to World No.1 Nicol David in the semifinals today, said she was pleased with her marathon winning effort against teammate Joshana Chinappa that assured her of a bronze yesterday, especially because it proved the "authorities and her doubters" wrong.

16:33 IST: Yumnam Sanathoi Devi is now assured of a bronze medal in Wushu. She beat Mongolia's Amgalanjargal Sangidor 2-0 in the quarter-final of the Women's Sanda 52kg event. The semi-final is scheduled for tomorrow.

13:24 IST: Saurav Ghosal beats Ong Beng Hee 3-0 to enter the final of the men's singles squash event thereby assuring India of at least the silver medal. Ghosal, the top seed, comprehensively beat the Malaysian 11-9, 11-4, 11-5 in just 45 minutes to secure his best placing at the Asian Games. The 28-year-old Indian already has three Asian Games bronze medals to his name -- winning the bronze in singles in 2006, 2010 and a doubles bronze in 2010.

12:01 IST: Indian women rowers eliminated

The Indian women's rowing team was eliminated from the lightweight quadruple sculls event after finishing last in their repechage round. The quartet of Varghese Dittymol, Monalisha Chanu, Cahoba devi and Manjula Xess was eliminated after ending up on the bottom of the five-strong heap. The four clocked 7:05.65 to cover 2000m, way below the fourth-ranked Thais, who qualified for the final with a timing of 6:58.65.

11:54 IST: In Swimming, India's Prathapan Nair could not make the cut for Men's 50m Backstroke finals. He clocked 26.85 in the Heats and finished sixth out of seven competitors.

11:52 IST: In Men's tennis, India fail to get past Kazakhstan in the quarter-final.

11:26 IST: In squash, Dipika Pallikal loses 4-11 4-11 5-11 to World No.1 Nicol David of Malaysia in the women's semi-final. The 23-year-old Chennai girl will have to settle for a bronze medal. Indian was outplayed 4-11 4-11 5-11 by David, who took merely 25 minutes to storm into the final.

The top-seeded Malaysian came into the match as the overwhelming favourite, having not lost a singles match since the sport was introduced in the 1998 Bangkok Games.

And David was in top form from the word go today as well and hardly gave a chance to Pallikal, who had played a draining semifinal match against compatriot Joshana Chinappa yesterday.

India had won three medals (all bronze) out of four categories at Guangzhou 2010 and this time they look good for medals in all four categories including the team
India has so far won four medals (all bronze) at the Asian Games since 1998. Two of them have come courtesy men's singles player Saurav Ghosal and the rest in men's and women's team event.

09:24 IST: Indian women's team of Rahi Sarnobat, Anisa Sayyed and Heena Sidhu win bronze in the 25m Pistol event.

The shooting range once again provided an early medal for the Indian contingent as the women's pistol trio of Rahi Sarnobat, Anisa Sayyed and Heena Sidhu shot down a bronze in the 25m range on day three of the competitions.

The Indian trio tallied 1729 points, a whopping 18 adrift of silver medal winners China and two more behind gold medallists and hosts South Korea, to clinch the fourth medal from the pistol and rifle shooting range here.

It was also the third bronze for the country from this venue. The only metal of any other colour, notably gold, has come through the efforts of army man Jitu Rai in the 50m pistol event.

Anisa, in the second lot of shooters who went through the precision and rapid fire parts of the competition, provided the spark to fetch the bronze with a superb tally of 294 out of 300.

Her precision round got her only 283 for an overall aggregate of 577.

The other Indian expert in this rapid fire round, Rahi Sarnobat, fired 289 in precision and two more in the second stage rapid fire round to aggregate 580 points and also qualify for the eight-woman individual final with the eighth best score in the preliminaries.

Heena Sidhu, whose pet event is the 10m air pistol in which the shooters take their own time while aiming at the target and then fire, had an expected splendid first round in which she recorded 291.

But her inexperience in rapid fire showed as she got only 281 for an overall tally of 572.

India's Asian Games Day 3 Schedule

New Delhi: On a lukewarm second day of the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, India earned two more medals.

After a gold laden opening day, Indian shooters failed to repeat the golden harvest, but helped the tally with a bronze medal in the men's in 10m air pistol. It was Jitu Rai's second medal in this Games. He teamed up with Samresh Jung and Prakash Nanjappa.

In women's badminton team event, Indian eves failed to past their South Korean opponents in the semi-final. But, by virtue of finishing in the top four, they have earned a medal, that of bronze.

There will be a total of 27 gold medals to be won on the third day. And the Indian contingent will hope to win more medals.

Recap of India's Day 2 performance

 Indian shooters were on target for the second successive day as they delivered a bronze in the men's 10m air pistol team event, while shuttlers bagged another medal of same hue in the women's team competition in the 17th Asian Games here on Sunday.

Dipika Pallikal also assured the country of its first women's singles squash medal in the Asian Games.

New shooting sensation Jitu Rai, who gave India the first gold medal yesterday, was again the standout performer as he guided the men's team to the bronze medal in 10m air pistol event at the Ongnyeon International Shooting Range.

Rai's splendid and precise shooting, that helped him garner 585 points and qualify for the medal round with the second-best score, backed up by Samaresh Jung's 580 (who finished 9th) and Prakash Nanjappa's 578 (14th), albeit with an injured leg, helped India garner 1743 points, the same as second placed China, for the bronze.

In fact, India and China were level on points and the silver was decided by the number of Xs (bullseye) in the tens in which the latter tallied one more -- 65 to India's 64.

The gold was won by hosts South Korea with a combined tally of 1744.

In badminton, a fighting India went down to hosts South Korea 1-3 in the women's team semifinals to settle for their maiden bronze medal at the Asian Games.

This was India's first medal in badminton since the team bronze won by the men in Seoul, 1986. The country's women had to be satisfied with their first-ever medal in Asian Games history after seven bronze medals won by men.

India's number one shuttler, Saina Nehwal pulled off a great victory in three tough games against Korean world number four Sung Jihyun 21-12 10-21 21-9 in the opening match that lasted for 56 minutes.

But thereafter, the Indians lost their next three matches to go down to a formidable opponents. P V Sindhu fought tooth and nail before losing to the host country's world number six Bae Yeonju 21-14 18-21 21-13.

Korean pair of Kim Soyeong and Chang Yena won the doubles against the Indian duo of Pradnya Gadre and N Sikki Reddy 21-16 21-17 and then Kim Hyomin smashed P C Thulasi 21-12 21-18 to settle the issue in hosts' favour.

India along with other losing semifinalist Japan (who

lost to title favourites China 1-3) automatically gained the bronze.

On the squash court, Dipika assured India of a maiden women's singles squash medal, while top seed Saurav Ghosal confirmed his third successive podium finish in men's singles after the two reached the semifinals of their respective events.

Ghosal defeated Pakistan's Iqbal Nasir 11-6 9-11 11-2 11-9 in a contest, which lasted 58 minutes at the Yeorumul Squash Courts.

Dipika, on the other hand, triumphed in an all-Indian battle against senior pro Joshana Chinappa 7-11 11-9 11-8 15-17 11-9.

In hockey, the men's team hammered Sri Lanka 8-0 in their pool B match to begin their campaign in style.

The tennis players were also in good form as India blanked Nepal 3-0 to sail into the quarterfinals of men's team event.

Yuki Bhambri did not drop a game en route to a crushing 6-0 6-0 win over Jeetendra Pariyar to seal the issue in India's favour, after Sanam Singh posted a comfortable 6-0 6-1 victory over Abhishek Bastola at the Yeorumul Tennis Courts.

In the inconsequential doubles tie, the Indian duo of Divij Sharan and Saketh Myneni registered a comfortable straight sets 6-0 6-0 win over Santosh Khatri and Sonam Dawa, thrashing their opponents in only 35 minutes.

However, in shooting, the men's trap trio of Mansher Singh, Manavjit Singh Sandhu and Darius Kynan Chenai flopped with all of them finishing outside the top ten.

Mansher secured the 11th position with an aggregate of 117 over two days, Sandhu secured 116 to be 14th while Chenai brought up the rear after logging 108 to end up a distant 36 out of 46 shooters.

Jitu Rai also could not add to his or the country's tally when the eight-man finals took place in 10m air pistol individual competition.

The 50m champion was leading after the sixth of the 20-shot finals in the shorter distance.

In hockey, Rupinderpal Singh scored a hat-trick as India began their campaign impressively. Rupinderpal pumped in three goals in the 12th, 45th and 46th minute, while Ramandeep Singh found the net in the 28th and 59th minute.

There were also goals for Danish Mujtaba, Kangujam Chinglensana Singh and Raghunath Ramachandra at the Seonhak Hockey Stadium.

However, there was disappointment in some other sports where Indians seemed to be making up the numbers.

In women's football, India suffered a 0-10 thrashing at the hands of Thailand in their final group match though they have already qualified for the quarterfinals.

The Indian swimmers cut a sorry figure, failing to qualify for the finals of the three events in which they participated at the Munhak Park Tae-hwan Aquatics Center here.

Saurabh Sangvekar ended fifth in the men's 200m freestyle heat with a timing of 1:53.33. In the men's 100m backstroke heats, Madhu Nair clocked 57.81 to finish seventh.

In men's 200m butterfly event, Agnel D'Souza finished a creditable fourth with a timing of 2:04.74.

The he Indian handball team's dismal show also continued as it lost 19-39 to South Korea in its second group D match.

The Indians trailed the host team 6-21 in the first half before losing the second half 13-18.

Cyclists Debroah and Mohan Mahitha finished ninth and 11th in the women's keirin individual track event.

Both Debroah and Mahitha finished fifth in their respective heats over eight laps before ending at the ninth and 11th in the classification race to decide minor positions at the Incheon International Velodrome.

After an impressive start in their opening game, the Indian men cagers failed to maintain the momentum as they went down fighting 67-73 to Saudi Arabia in their second Group B qualifying round match in the basketball competition.
