New Delhi: The Sports Ministry has decided against making any change to the daily allowance of the Asian Games-bound athletes, keeping it at USD 50, which it plans to pay in one go after getting the Finance Ministry's clearance.
"We have sent the proposal to the Finance Ministry and the amount will remain at USD 50 per athlete, like it was for the Commonwealth Games. If the clearance from the Finance Ministry comes in a day or two, the full amount will be paid in Incheon itself," a Sports Ministry official said.
The daily allowance was increased from USD 25 to USD 50 at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games but most athletes were paid USD 25 only towards the end of the mega event. Most of them are yet to get the remaining amount.
The responsibility of distributing cash lies with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The amount will be calculated from five days prior the Asian Games that begins on Friday and one day after the mega event.
516 athletes will represent India across 28 disciplines in Incheon.
