New Delhi: It's a historic day for Indian badminton. Newly crowned women's World Number 1 Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth made short work of the their semi-final opponents to enter the title round of India Open Super Series in Delhi.

Earlier in the day, Saina became the first ever Indian woman to be ranked world number one after another contender Spaniard Carolin Marin lost her semi-final match at the Siri Fort Sports Complex. Then, the ace Indian shuttler beat her Japanese opponent Yui Hashimoto 21-15, 21-11 in the second semi-final. She will play Thailand's Ratchanok Inaton in the women's singles final.

In the men's section, second ranked Srikanth humbled his Chinese opponent Xue Song 21-16, 21-13 in the second semis in front of buoyant crowd. He will play sixth-ranked Viktor Axelsen of Denmark in Sunday's final. Axelsen's semi-final opponent Tommy Sugiarto from Indonesia retired hurt in the second game after winning the first game 24-22. Sugiarto was trailing 17-11 in the second game.
