NBA: Knicks woes deepen with loss to Grizzlies
Mike Conley scored 22 points and handed out seven assists Monday as Memphis handed the New York Knicks a 12th straight NBA defeat, 105-83.
The struggling Knicks, dealing with injuries to top scorers Carmelo Anthony and Amare Stoudemire, matched their club-record losing streak established in the 1984-85 season as their record fell to a league-worst 5-32.
Anthony missed a third straight game with a sore left knee, while Stoudemire missed his sixth straight with a knee injury.
About half an hour before tip-off, sixth-man J.R. Smith and Samuel Dalembert were pulled from the game.
Smith and injured swingman Iman Shumpert were dealt to Cleveland in a three-team trade while the Knicks were reported to be waiving Dalembert to save $2 million on his contract.
Spain`s Marc Gasol and Tony Allen had 14 points apiece for Memphis, who put the game away with a 15-2 scoring run midway through the third quarter. The Grizzlies made a blistering 72.7 percent of their shots from the floor in the quarter.
