Glasgow: Discus thrower Vikas Gowda won India's first gold medal from athletics in the 2014 Commonwealth Games at the Hampden Park Stadium on Thursday. Gowda, who had won the silver four years ago in New Delhi, made the country proud by converting it in to the yellow metal with a best throw of 63.64 metres. Cypriot Apostolos Parellis won the silver with 63.32m and Jamaican Jason Morgan held on to the bronze with a best throw of 62.34m. ========================================================================= ALSO SEE: Our full coverage on Commonwealth Games 2014 India`s schedule for Day 8 ========================================================================= Wrestlers continue to shine Yogeshwar Dutt cruised through past Jevon Balfour of Canada on technical superiority in Men's 65kg wrestling event to win India's second gold medal on Day 8. Earlier, Babita Kumari got India their first gold medal on Day 8 when she defeated Brittanee Laverdure to win gold in Women's 55kg wrestling event. It is the fourth gold medal in wrestling for India this year. Hockey: India defeat South Africa 5-2 The Indian men's hockey team outshined South Africa 5-2 to qualify for the semi-final of the men's hockey competition at the 20th Commonwealth Games. India were leading 4-0 by the end of first half and even though their performance in the second half wasn't as good, they won they match convincingly as a result of a good first half. South Africa did try their best to make a comeback in the second half by scoring two goals, it was probably too late for the Proteas. Dipa becomes first Indian woman to clinch CWG gymnastics medal Dipa Karmakar became the first Indian woman to win a historic Commonwealth Games medal in artistic gymnastics when she won the women's vault bronze at the SSE Hydro on Thursday. Ashish Kumar had won India's maiden gymnastics medals in CWG when he scalped the men's vault silver and men's floor bronze fours years ago in New Delhi. England's Claudia Fragapane won the gold with an average score of 14.633 while Canada's Elsabeth Black took home the silver with 14.433. Hockey: India 4-0 South Africa Indian men's hockey team made a great start to their match against South Africa as they took a 2-0 lead in the first eight minutes of the game. While Ragunath converted India's first penalty corner into a goal, Rupinder extended India's lead by converting their third penalty corner in the 8th minute of the game. Wrestlers assured of medals: The Indian wrestlers continue their good show at 2014 Commonwealth Games as three Indian grapplers, including Olympic bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt, qualified for the finals in their respective weight categories to ensure at least three silver for India on the third and final day of the wrestling competition. While Yogeshwar (men`s 65kg freestyle), Geetika Jhakar (women`s 63kg) and Babita Kumari (women`s 55kg) made the finals, Pawan Kumar (men`s 86kg) will fight for the bronze medal. Table Tennis: The men's Double pair of Sharath Kamal Achanta and Anthony Arputharaj also registered an easy win over the Jenkins of Wales in their third round match. Table Tennis: Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Rajul Desai defeated P. McCreery and A. Robinson of Northern Ireland in four sets in their men's Doubles third round match. Hockey: England defeated Canada in men's hockey Pool B match 3-1. They will in all likelihood play Australia in the semis. For India, a win over South Africa today will set up a last-four ficture with New Zealand. Wrestling: Pawan Kumar won his back-to-back bouts in men's 86 kg wrestling event to qualify for the semi-finals. In his quarter-final bout, he got the better of L. Bianco of Scotland. Wrestling: Geetika Jhakar produced a stunning show to book a semi-final place in women's 63kg category. 28-year-old defeated B. Metala Epanga of Cameroon. Wrestling: Indian legend Yogeshwar Dutt got the better of Scots Alex Gladkov in his 65 kg bout to enter quarter-finals. Wrestling: Pawan Kumar beat Steve Hill of New Zealand in men's 86 kg round of 16 bout. Table Tennis: Indian Mixed Doubles pair of Anthony Arputharaj and MS Patkar failed the proceed further as they lost to N.Gao and Y. Lin of Singapore in five sets. Lawn Bowls: England has just added another medal to their tally. The English trio of Bob Love, David Fisher and Paul Brown defeated Scottish team of Billy Allan, Michael Simpson and Kevin Wallace in Open Triples B6/B7/B8 bronze medal play-off. Table Tennis: Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Rajul Desai will play their men's Doubles third round match against P. McCreery and A. Robinson of Northern Ireland in a while. Indian Diving talents Ramananda Kongbrailatpam and Siddharth Pardeshi are in action in men's 3m Springboard Prelims. Table Tennis: Indian Mixed Doubles pair of Sharath Kamal and Kumaresan have also qualified for the last eight after defeating their Aussie opponents in five sets. Table Tennis actions have already been started and the English pair of Liam Pitchford and Tin-Tin Ho have entered the last eight of the Mixed Doubles event with a straight set win over the Kiwis. All in all, there will be no less than 25 gold medals to fight for in 25 sports, of which nine are from the track and field. And David Rudisha will once be in action in men's 800m, certainly one of the stars of the Games.

And some action from Indian table tennis players too... In athletics, we have Vikas Gowda in men's Discus Throw, Tintu Luka -- who was lucky to survived the heats after a strange pace setting, will be in women's 800m semi-finals. Then there are Indian respresentations in diving, road cycling and squash. Hockey, the national sport of India, will see the men's team play in a winners-take-all game against South Africa for a spot in the final. Indian women's team were knocked out of the competition by the Proteas. Besides, Day 8 will also witness Indian badminton stars fighting out in their respective singles and doubles competition. In the gymnastics, Ashish Kumar is carrying Indian hopes for a couple of medals in the individual routines. Following a day without a single gold medal, Indian athletes will look to make amends on Day 8. Wrestling, one of India's major medal booster will have it's final day in Glasgow and there are four gold medals available. Veteran Yogeshwar Dutt will lead the Indian charge as the likes of Babita Kumari in women's 55kg, Geetika Jhakar in women's 63kg and Pawan Kumar in men's 86 kg will fight represent India.
