2015 Cricket WC committee undecided on new chairman following Strong’s death

Sydney: The directors of the 2015 Cricket World Cup organising committee have still not picked a successor in place of late chairman James Strong, dithering on whether to choose his New Zealand deputy or another Australian for the post. Strong, who died on Sunday due to surgical complications, was appointed as the chairman to the committee in August 2011, after which Australian-born, New Zealand-based businessman Ralph Waters was named as his deputy, to run the tournament to be held in early 2015.

Although the board had held a scheduled meeting on Monday to discuss the appointment of Strong’s successor, no resolution was made on whether to appoint Waters as chairman and choose a new deputy, or make an external appointment for Strong’s post. As the event is being held in Australia and New Zealand, organisational power is divided between the two countries. While the World Cup committee`s chief executive, John Harnden is an Australian, it has also appointed a New Zealander, Therese Walsh, to lead its planning there. ANI
