3rd Test drawn; Sri Lanka clinch series 1-0

Pallekele: The 3rd Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan ended in a draw and with that the hosts took the three match series 1-0.

Pakistan started the final day at 299/8 with a slender lead but Asad Shafiq 100* and Adnan Akmal 35* ensured that Pakistan where not in a position lose the the game. Misbah declared the inning right after Asad's century with the score at 380/8.

Sri Lanka needed 270 runs to win from 71 overs and the hosts finished the day on 195/4 in 62 overs.

Update 5: 46 overs have been bowled in the fourth innings and Sri Lanka have made 145/2. The second wicket to fall was that of Dinesh Chandimal who made 65 runs.`He was caught by Asad Shafiq off the bowling of Saeed Ajmal. Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene are on crease.

Update 4: By the end of 28 overs, Sri Lanka were 101/1 as opener Dinesh Chandimal completed his half-century. The home team needs another 169 runs with nine wickets in hand to win the Test.

Update 3: After 15 overs, Sri Lanka were 60/1. The first wicket went to Junai Khan who removed Paranavitana as he was caught at slips by Younis Khan. He departed after scoring 22.

Update 2: Sri Lanka have started positively in their chase of 270 runs with Dinesh Chandimal and hitting Umar Gul for three consecutive fours in the fifth over of their innings. At lunch they were 27/0.

Update 1: Asad Shafiq struck a century and remained unbeaten on 100 as Pakistan declared their second innings at 380/8 setting Sri Lanka a target of 270 runs on the final day of third Test on Thursday.

At stumps on Day 4, Pakistan were 299/8 as Sri Lanka came back in the final session with some quick wickets to leave Pakistan in a tricky situation.

Azhar Ali struck a century as Pakistan wiped out the first innings deficit of 111 runs and taking a lead of 188 runs by the end of the penultimate day.

However, from a relative strong position when Pakistan were 276/4, they lost four wickets while adding the next 33 to their second innings total.

Asad Shafiq was on the crease batting on 55 along with Adnan Akmal who is yet to open his account.
