Lahore: Shahid Afridi`s controversial sacking as captain is expected to dominate the governing body meeting of the Pakistan Cricket Board scheduled to be held here on June 22.
Even though, the Afridi issue is not in the official agenda of the meeting, the governing body members are expected to seek explanation from PCB chairman Ejaz Butt about the matter which has snowballed into a major controversy in the country.
"The governing body members can ask the chairman to brief them on the issue as it is of great importance to the Board," a PCB source said.
"The Pakistan team manager, Intikhab Alam is also a member of the governing board and will be attending the meeting so one can expect Afridi to dominate the meeting." Incidentally, acting on Intikhab`s report the PCB removed Afridi as Pakistan`s ODI and Twenty20 captain for the limited over series against Ireland and handed over the duty to Test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq in his place.
Since then Afridi and PCB are at loggerheads with the former filing a petition in the Sindh High Court against the Board for initiating disciplinary action against him for criticising the board and announcing his retirement.
"Intikhab and coach Waqar Younis have already submitted their tour reports of the West Indies and Ireland series and these reports didn`t contain many positive remarks about Afridi as a captain or a player. So there is every likelihood the chairman will brief the embers on what prompted the PCB to change the captain and start disciplinary action against Afridi," a source said.
However, other sources said that Afridi is using all his good contacts within the board to gather support. The board meeting will be held after the next hearing of the Sindh High Court on Afridi`s petition against the PCB onThursday.
