AIS hold India but visitors finish on top of table

Townsville: Skipper Ryan Carters scored a fighting century while useful contribution from Glenn Maxwell and Tim Armstrong helped Australian Institute of Sports (AIS) hold India to a draw in the concluding three-day encounter of the Emerging Players Meet.

Indians didn`t get any points from the match but AIS were docked a negative point for conceding first innings lead.

India however finished the tournament with six points from three encounter with a victory and two draws followed by AIS on -1 and New Zealand and South Africa finishing on -5 each.

Starting the day at 93 for two, AIS managed to frustrate the Indian bowlers ending the match at 328 for seven. Carters scored 115 but more importantly played 268 balls in the process hitting 10 boundaries and a six.

Maxwell scored 73 off 95 balls with the help of 11 boundaries and a six. The most important knock which proved to be consequential in the end was played by Armstrong who batted for 269 minutes for his 75 and along with wicketkeeper Sam Whiteman (14 not out) also presented a dead bat during his near-two hour stay at the wicket.

For India, pacer Varun Aaron (2/49) and left-arm spinner Bhargav Bhatt (2/70) were the most successful bowlers while Jaidev Unadkat, Umesh Yadav and Iqbal Abdullah got one apiece.
