Alam entrusted with task to convince QadirLahore: Pakistan`s former captain and now a senior official in the PCB, Intikhab Alam has been entrusted with the job of convincing ex-spinner Abdul Qadir to accept an assignment after he lost his cool over being given a short contract extension.

Sources in the board said that Qadir was upset with the PCB after he was given a three-month extension on his coaching contract, which expired on June 30.

"The board later tried to pacify the legspinner by extending his contract to a year but he has refused to relent and return to duty," a source said.

Qadir, who took 236 Test and 132 one-day wickets, was late last year appointed as chief coordinator of club cricket.

He was also given the job of coaching and recently supervised the national skills trials throughout the country with former teammates, Sarfraz Nawaz and Ejaz Ahmed.

"Qadir became upset when he learnt that after his contract expired on June 30, he was given only a three-month extension. Later the board offered him a one-year deal but he is demanding a three-year one as he says this is the period required for him to restructure club cricket, the source said.

Another source said that at one stage Qadir was so upset he had even barged into the office of the PCB chairman, Zaka Ashraf and announced that he had resigned from his job.

Qadir had also parted ways with the board during the tenure of Ijaz Butt in 2009 when he worked as chief selector.

"Intikhab has been trying to convince Qadir and accept the one-year contract but the latter has refused to even come to the board headquarters at the Gaddafi stadium."

Even Sarfraz is believed to have complained that he was being given a raw deal by the board, which had appointed him as a coach on the national academy panel, besides asking him to supervise the fast bowlers` camp.

"Sarfraz`s complaint is that he is not being provided proper security and facilities during the national skills trials which resume after Ramazan and that his pay should be enhanced," the source added.
