London: Alastair Cook is expected to hold on to the position of the captain when England names its squad on Wednesday for the one-day series in Sri Lanka starting in November, a report said.

Several former players had earlier demanded the 29-year-old to be replaced after England suffered series defeats by Sri Lanka and India, reported the BBC.

Cook was appointed captain of the one-day cricket team in 2011 and had led the team to the top of the International Cricket Council (ICC) ODI rankings the following year.

Cook holds the record of captaining England in 63 ODIs and is 13th on the list of England's all-time run-scorers, with 3,085 at an average of 37.62 and a strike rate of 77.57.
