New Delhi: Ending all speculations, the ECB on Friday sacked Alastair Cook as the captain of their ODI team.

Eoin Morgan was appointed as the new skipper and he will lead England at the World Cup that starts in February to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The decision was expected, considering Cook's poor form where he has managed to score just one half-century in last 22 innings.

Under his captaincy, England lost five of their last six multi-match series and the recent 5-2 series loss forced the selectors to take the action.

Paul Downton, the managing director of England cricket, had recently said he would be very surprised if Cook would not lead at the World Cup.

Morgan too, isn't in the best of form and has an average of only 25.45 in his last 23 matches.

Under Cook's captaincy, England played 69 ODIs, winning 36, losing 30. While one match was tied, there were no results for two ODIs.
