New Delhi: England's opening pair of Alex Hales and Jason Roy on Friday stitched together a stunning partnership that shattered several records.

The duo scored 256 runs to ensure a crushing 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI in Birmingham.

Hales scored 133 not out and Roy an unbeaten 112 in England's highest first-wicket partnership in one-day cricket and they overhauled Sri Lanka`s 254 for seven with more than 15 overs to spare.

In doing so, they also broke the long-standing opening partnership record against the Lankans set by Indian pair of Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly

The legendary duo scored 252 runs for the first wicket at Colombo (RPS) in 1998.

The Hales-Roy stand is now the third highest against Sri Lanka for any wicket, after 318 by Ganguly and Rahul Dravid and 267* by Luke Ronchi and Grant Elliot.
