Anil Kumble or Ravi Shastri: Did BCCI ask Virat Kohli to pick one between the two as India's next coach?

New Delhi: Soon after the BCCI-appointed high-profile Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) completed the interview process of the applicants who had applied for the job of the Indian cricket coach, the Indian board is reportedly said to have asked Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli to mention his choice.

Out of the 21 names which were shortlisted by the BCCI – a list which was forwarded to Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman, it came down to two high-profile names – Anil Kumble and Ravi Shastri.

The board is said to have consulted Kohli about his pick between the two veterans.

"Kohli will have to send his recommendation to the Board by Wednesday," a source close to BCCI told India Today earlier.

The report further added that two out of the three members of CAC were keen towards appointing Kumble as the head coach, along with some top officials from the BCCI.

On the other hand, during his 18-month stint as the director of the Indian cricket team, Shastri was often praised by several Indian cricketers.

Now that the BCCI have appointed Kumble as the new coach, it remains to be seen whether his chemistry with Kohli can be as good as it was with Shastri.
