SCORECARD» | COMMENTARY» | AS IT HAPPENED» ============================================================== Afghanistan won by 32 runs Bangladesh Innings Over 47.5 || Score 222 Afghanistan registered a historic win over a full-fledged Test team. Bangladesh did tried to steal a win from an improbable situation, but it was always going to be difficult after the initial slump. =================================================== Over 41 || Score 167/8 Two more wickets – one pathetic run out and another caught behind. Kudos to the Afghan team for their relentless pressure. The match effectively over for Afghanistan. =================================================== Over 39.5 || Score 165/6 Another wicket. Nawroz Mangal took a brilliant catch at mid-off to get rid of Naeem Islam. Naeem Islam c Nawroz Mangal b Hamid Hassan 35(b 51) =================================================== Over 38.5 || Score 161/5 Finally a catch taken. Bangladesh lost their fifth wicket in the form of Nasir Hossain. He was going for too many big shots, and finally perished off a off wide delivery from Mirwais Ashraf. Samiullah Shenwari took a comfortable catch at gully. Nasir Hossain c Samiullah Shenwari b Mirwais Ashraf 41 (b 60) =================================================== Over 36 || Score 135/4 Amidst the ruins, Nasir Hossain and Naeem Islam, both on 20's, are staging a rear-guard action for Bangladesh. They still need more than 110 runs with only 84 runs left. In between, Afghanistan fielders are having a torrid time, dropping catches everywhere. =================================================== Over 30 || Score 106/4 Bangladesh are reeling under pressure with Afghanistan bowlers giving away nothing. Afghanistan, despite dropping three catches, have taken complete control over the proceedings here with required run rate for the batting side climbing over 7 an over, not to mention the wicket count. =================================================== Over 24.3 || Score 88/4 Shenwari, the bowler returned to remove Haque. Mominul Haque, who was batting responsibly and just reached 50, tried to heave a leg-break delivery from Samiullah Shenwari, but his wild swing ended up opening the guard and stumps disturbed. Match is swinging Afghanistan's way. Mominul Haque b Samiullah Shenwari 50 =================================================== Over 18.1 || Score 69/3 Afghan skipper, Mohammad Nabi provided a crucial break by removing rival captain, Mushfiqur Rahim. Thanks to some dubious decision. The slow arm delivery hold the line and caught Rahim's front foot. But the ball seemed to have nick the bat first. Mushfiqur Rahim lbw Mohammad Nabi 23(b 42) =================================================== Over 15 || Score 60/2 Mushfiqur Rahim 18 (36 b) and Mominul Haque 35 (43 b) have put a 58-run unbeaten partnership. In this stage, Afghanistan have already lost 3 wickets with hardly 50 runs on the board. So, despite the ever raising required rate, Bangladesh can hope to win the match... and that all important, decisive factor - DEW yet to make its entrance in the game. =================================================== Over 10 || Score 42/2 Mominul Haque is batting with purpose. The left-handed batsman has so far scored 26 from 25 deliveries. And in his company, Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim on 13 (24 b) is compiling his innings cautiously. Somehow, Afghan bowlers have allowed both the batsmen to settle. =================================================== Over 6 || Score 26/2 Mushfiqur Rahim on 9 (9 b) and Mominul Haque on 14 (16 b) are trying to steady the innings after that initial shock. Both the batsmen have played some beautiful shots and subsequently, the run rate has gained substantial leap. But the batting side will still need patience and application to survive this Afghan attack. =================================================== Over 1.6 || Score 2/2 Another wicket. Two overs, two wickets and two runs. Hamza Hotak complemented Shapoor's perfect opening over spell by taking a wicket, that of Bangladeshi wicket-keeper Anamul Haque. Afghanistan in big trouble, with both the openers back. Anamul Haque lbw Hamza Hotak 0 (6) =================================================== Over 0.5 || Score 1/1 A dream start for Afghanistan A beautiful delivery from the Afghan opening bowler castled the stumps of Shamsur Rahman. A couple of quick wickets in the opening spell will undoubtedly give Afghanistan an upper hand in this match. Shamsur Rahman b Shapoor Zadran 0 (2b) =================================================== Innings break Considering how Afghanistan bowlers kept the famed Pakistan batting line-up quite, Bangladesh will require a concerted effort from the entire team to win the match. =================================================== Over 50 || Score 254/6 That's some performance from the Associate team from Afghanistan. In the last 10 overs, Afghanistan scored 107 runs to post a challenging total of 254. The sixth-wicket partnership changed the complexion of the innings. The 164 run stand from 138 balls, with Asghar Stanikzai scoring an unbeaten 90 while Samiullah Shenwari contributing 81 runs from just 69 balls, keep Afghanistan in the match. For the hosts, after dominating Afghanistan for the better part of the innings, failed to capitalise when it mattered most. =================================================== Over 40 || Score 148/5 In last thirteen overs Afghanistan have scored 58 runs without loosing a single wicket. Both the batsmen Samiullah Shenwari and Asghar Stanikzai are playing solid cricket in the middle and doing some repairing work. Both have started scoring runs at a rapid pace. And Bangladeshi bowlers are finding it difficult to stop them from scoring runs that freely. Now Afghanistan must be looking for a total somewhere near 200. =================================================== Over 27 || Score 90/5 Afghanistan batsmen continue falling prey to their own mistakes. They have lost Nawroz Mangal and Mohammad Nabi in a quick succession. Mangal was trying to sneak a single off Haque but sent back by the non-striker. Direct hit did the trick, while Mohammad Nabi was held at slips off Haque by Nasir Hossian. Afghanistan in deep trouble. Mohammad Nabi c Nasir Hossain b Mominul Haque 7 (15b) Nawroz Mangal run out Naeem Islam 24 (33b) =================================================== Over 22 || Score 74/3 In last twelve overs Afghanistan have lost two more wickets in the form of Karim Sadiq and Najibullah Zadran. First, Sunny got the better of Karim and then within a few overs he took his second by scalping the wicket of Najibullah Zadran. Zadran was playing well but in trying to attempt an over ambitious shot he got bowled. Meanwhile, in the 18th over Afghanistan crossed the mark of 50 runs. Nawroz Mangal and Asghar Stanikzai are in the middle and Afghanistan certainly need a big partnership from these two. =================================================== Over 10 || Score 33/1 In the first ten overs, Bangladeshi bowlers have managed to keep things under their control. After the fall of first wicket, both the Afghanistan batsmen – Najibullah Zadran and Karim Sadiq – are playing cautiously. Najib is playing on 19 whereas, Karim has scored five runs after facing 25 deliveries. But in between, Bangladesh fielders have missed few catches. =================================================== Over 6 || Score 20/1 In the first six overs, the host team has dominated the proceedings. In the third over of the match Afghanistan lost their opener Mohammad Shahzad off Rubel Hossai. He failed to pick the line of the ball and got trapped in front of the wicket. Abdur Razzak and Rubel Hossai are bowling at a tight line and not giving too much room to the batmen to score freely. At the moment, both the batsmen in the middle are struggling. Mohammad Shahzad lbw b Rubel Hossain 2 (8b) ============================================================== Bangladesh have won the toss and elected to bowl first. ============================================================== Fatullah: Within a few minutes the 5th match of the on-going Asia Cup will kick-start when the host country Bangladesh will lock horns with the minnows Afghanistan here. Both the teams have lost their first matches of the tournament. So it would be a crucial match for them. If Bangladesh lost their first match to India then Afghanistan were beaten by Pakistan. But Afghanistan bowlers bowled really well in their first match to restrict Pakistan to mere 248. Whereas, Bangladesh on the other end batted beautifully to set up a challenging total of 280 runs against India. Though both the teams failed to win their respective matches, they have had their moments in the match. So, one can expect a good contest between both the teams.
