Asia Cup 2016 presents an opportunity for Yuvraj Singh to get back into his groove

Batting at No. 5 gives Yuvi less chances to spend time in the middle.

New Delhi: India's veteran cricketer Yuvraj Singh will hope he sets the tempo alive in the upcoming Asia Cup as his side opens their campaign against Bangladesh on February 24.

Yuvraj who returned to the Indian team for the T20I against Australia last month, did his part with the ball in the three-match series and played a vital 15-run knock that helped India win the third game in Sydney in the final over.

Yuvi did not get much chance to showcase his prowess with the bat in the series against Australia but had the opportunity against Sri Lanka this month in the first T20I. Yuvraj struggled to find a rhythm against the Lankan pacers and eventually got out for just 10 runs.

The next game Yuvi failed again after coming in the 19th over and was out first ball off Thisara Perera. Yuvi did not feature with the bat in the 3rd game and it was a platform where skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni could have sent him at first down given that India had very less runs to chase.

Yuvraj is likely to bat at the No. 5 position and with the form the top order is in, the chances to spend time in the middle could be very less for the southpaw. Unless the side loses quick wickets, Yuvi's chances in the middle look limited in the middle overs.

So therefore the onus will be on him to come and play a brisk innings towards the end of the innings if India bat first. While batting second, he could help India chase down totals in a limited amount deliveries. That is the challenge Yuvraj will face as he needs some much needed game time to get confidence ahead of the ICC World Twenty20.

Yuvraj also has the chance to shine with the ball and his fielding, if he gets limited opportunities with the bat. That too will be a boost for himself and the skipper given his multi-faceted abilities.
