Asia Cup: Rohit Sharma joins opening partner Shikhar Dhawan on India's injury list

Mirpur: After Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma has become the latest India player to enter the injury list.

Despite complaining of back spasms, the skipper played both of the team's matches so far. Dhawan though missed the match against Pakistan after suffering a niggle on his left ankle.

The problems on the injury front further increased after Rohit was rapped on his left toe by a crushing yorker from Mohammad Amir.

According to a report in the Times of India, the right-hander underwent a precautionary X-Ray on Sunday morning.

“Rohit had complained of soreness. There is no damage to his foot, and he is currently undergoing recovery under the medical staff,” a team official told TOI.

While Shikhar was replaced by Ajinkya Rahane in Match 4, the team management is yet to decide who will play in place of the right-hander should he not recover ahead of the Sri Lanka match.

“I don't think we should jump the gun. Rohit's injury isn't serious enough for us to press the panic button and ask for replacements at this point of time. There is absolutely nothing to worry.” the official further added.

The next 24 hours are crucial for Rohit and the team with regards to his fitness.

“Having Parthiv in the squad does give us a lot of options. But, it would all boil down to how Rohit feels in the next few days,” the official said.

However, Dhawan is unlikely to feature in the team line-up for the Tuesday match.

“He had a niggle and we didn't want to aggravate it any further (by playing him on Saturday). But he is better now,” said the official.
