Assam gets three points by virtue of first innings lead
Dhanbad: Despite Ishank Jaggi’s fighting 188, a five wickets haul by Abu Nachim Ahmed helped visiting Assam get three points against Jharkhand on the basis of first innings lead in the Ranji Trophy Plate group B match which ended in a tame draw here today at Railway stadium.
In reply of Assam’s first innings total of 502, Jharkhand’s first innings folded at 373. Assam were 188 for 2 in second innings when the captain of both teams agreed to call off the match.
Assam`s batsman Dheeraj Jadhav scored 106 in the second innings. In the first innings he had scored 102.
Earlier resuming their over night innings from 301/4 Jharkhand could add only 72 runs before losing six wickets.
Jharkhand’s hope rested on Jaggi who was unbeaten on 163 yesterday. Jaggi tried his best to bail out the team but he missed his second double ton by 12 runs and Jharkhand its hope of getting lead in first innings when Arup Das of Assam bowled him on personal score of 188.
Jaggi faced 358 balls and sent 23 hits to fence. Deepak Chaugle (28), became first victim of the day when Gohain got him caught by P Das at team score of 329. Injured Jharkhand star batsman Saurav Tiwary then stepped in to rescue the team but Abu Ahmed sent him back on individual score of 7.
Thereafter Jharkhand lost its wicket at regular interval and whole team folded at 373.
Abu Ahmed, who claimed five wickets for 106 was declared man of the match.
In second innings Assam scored 181 for the loss of one wicket with Jadhav scoring 106
