Rohit Sharma: Father hails son's record-breaking 171-run knock against Australia

New Delhi: Though Indian opener Rohit Sharma's unbeaten knock of 171 against Australia went in vain as visitors lost the first ODI by five wickets, centurion's dad hailed his son for record-breaking innings.

"He batted extremely well today. There was a control in his batting. The way he started batting, it felt that he will play good and he displayed good cricket," Rohit's father Gurunath Sharma told ANI.

Gurunath, who feels that Australian wickets are difficult to bat on, hopes that Rohit will continue to play like this.

"I hope he will continue to play like this in the remaining matches. It is really difficult to play in Australia due to bouncy pitches, but he played well. I am extremely happy," added Gurunath.

Riding on Rohit's exclusive knock India managed to put up a challenging total of 309 in front of the hosts.

However, eventually the visitors lost the game by five wickets, with four balls to spare.
