Sydney: Indian batsman Virat Kohli, who was fined half of his match fee on Thursday for responding to barracking from the crowd by gesturing at them with his middle finger on day two of the second Test, had received support from legendary Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.
“Just ignore criticism… It’s there so you can prove it wrong! You are great humans… We adore you! Play well we are with you,” tweeted Bachchan.
Kohli had earlier defended his action on twitter by saying that that he had been sorely provoked before responding with the finger gesture. "I agree cricketers don’t have to retaliate. What when the crowd says the worst things about your mother and sister. The worst I`ve heard," he posted on his twitter page.
To which England batsman Kevin Pietersen replied, tweeting, "ha ha ha ha ha!!! Welcome to Australia buddy!!"
Kohli again responded back to Pietersen, saying: "never heard crap like that. EVER."
