Mumbai: Australian fast bowler Doug Bollinger has been ruled out of the World Cup with a left ankle injury and has returned home, team medical staff said on Friday.
"Doug Bollinger has been experiencing increasing left ankle pain since arriving in India," Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.
"Unfortunately, the pain is now significantly affecting his ability to bowl and he will not be playing any further part in the tournament.
"Doug will now return to Australia and seek specialist opinion to determine the best course of management for this injury."
Australian selectors will decide on a replacement player in due course and this will be announced once approved by the ICC`s technical committee, a statement said.
Australia`s pace attack of Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson and Shaun Tait helped reduce New Zealand to 206 all out in their World Cup Group A match in Nagpur on Friday.
