London: Former England Test skipper Sir Ian Botham has urged England to `dig deeper` to come out on top in the current Ashes series and stop `pining` over the `shock` departure of their batsman Jonathan Trott over `stress-related illness`.
According to the Mirror, the England legend warned his former side that the Ashes contest just got more harder for them, adding that the tourists should not make the mistake of thinking that Australia would be losing any sleep over Trott`s departure. Stating that the hosts would be working out how to get the better out of the player who replaces Trott in the second Test, Botham said that England should move forward with their tour without Trott as there is no point pining over him now, adding that the life of a cricketer has always been a tough one. Botham further said that the departure of Trott has left a gap at No.3 that England needs to fill with a player who can carry on their battle against the Australians, adding that the only way to stop the hosts in their tracks in Adelaide before it is too late is to pick a player who means business. Botham backed both Ian Bell and Joe Root for the vacant spot, adding that the Ashes is not for the faint-hearted as it has always been, and will always be, hard, uncompromising cricket.
