Brendon McCullum: New Zealand skipper to play his final one-day series against Australia pending fitness

New Delhi: New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum who has decided to hang up his boots after the upcoming series against Australia at home next month, has been named to lead the Black Caps in the ODI series against Steve Smith's side.

New Zealand play three ODIs and two Tests against Australia. 

McCullum will have to prove his fitness after the hard-hitting batsman had injured himself in the series against Sri Lanka last month.

He hasn't been able to take part in the ongoing series against Pakistan but is expected to play the third and final ODI match in Auckland on Sunday.

The 34-year-old said that he has had a couple of hits in the nets and although he isn't 100% fit, he hopes to feature in the side on Sunday.

"I`ve had a good couple of hits (in the nets). It`s probably not 100 per cent but there`s a bit of stiffness so hopefully I`ll be fine for tomorrow, said the Kiwi skipper.

Tom Latham has been named as cover for McCullum, who will retire after the second test against Australia in Christchurch next month.
