Bresnan in race against time to be fit for Ashes

London: England pace man Tim Bresnan is facing a race against time to be fit for this year’s all important Ashes series after learning his elbow problem needs surgery in America. The Yorkshire seamer was withdrawn from the current tour to New Zealand for the problem to be assessed by England medical staff, and he has now been told he faces a second surgery on the problem in 12 months after sitting out the series with Pakistan last year.

Bresnan has struggled to hit top speeds since that procedure, although did take 4-45 in England’s final one-day game against India last month, and he is understood to be optimistic about returning well ahead of England’s bumper summer that features the Champions Trophy and five Tests against Australia.
