Trent Bridge (Nottingham): Stuart Broad overcame frustrations by staying `calm` during the Lord`s Test and reaped rewards for patience by taking seven wickets and the young England fast bowler want to continue the good work in the second Test against India, starting from Friday.
Broad overcame two poor decisions by umpire Billy Bowden to bowl well and contribute in his side`s big 196-run win in the first Test.
Bowden had turned down correct LBW appeals against both Sachin Tendulkar and Suresh Raina on the final day when India were struggling to save the match.
Usually Broad is an aggressive bowler and does not hide emotions but he did not let the frustration overcome him.
"I was saying to myself, `Keep calm, keep calm` and just repeating it to make me relax. You work very hard to take wickets and to get out one of the best players to have ever held a bat at an important moment in the game is what all that work is for, so for him to be reprieved was a real worry," Broad said ahead of the match on his home ground.
"I had a couple of stone-dead LBWs turned down but I managed to stay calm and relaxed. There were definitely times when I wish the DRS had been involved," Broad was quoted as saying by the `Daily Mirror`.
He got his bowling rhythm back, though with a change in length as he is now pitching the ball up than short, after spending considerable time on the sidelines and Broad said all he wants now is to just continue in the same vein.
"Maybe I was trying to play a bit of catch-up on the cricket I missed in the winter. When you`ve not played much during the winter period, you come back searching for wickets and maybe I didn`t have the patience I needed.”
"I didn`t feel in bad rhythm, I just didn`t have that luck you sometimes need as a bowler. I wasn`t hitting the right area as much as I wanted to, but at Lord`s I did and that is how I want to continue," he said.
Broad is likely to share the new ball with James Anderson as Chris Tremlett has been rendered doubtful for the match due to a hamstring problem.
If Tremlett fails to recover in time, Tim Bresnan may take his place in the side.
