Buchanan to aid England`s Ashes build-up

Birmingham: Former Australia coach John Buchanan is due to arrive in England later this week to help England with their preparations for the forthcoming Ashes series, it was confirmed on Sunday.

Buchanan helped Australia win three out of four Ashes series during his time in charge of the national side, including the 5-0 whitewash of England in 2006/07.

He also coached holders Australia to two World Cup titles, most recently at the last edition in the West Indies three years ago.

Buchanan, 57, who had a brief and unsuccessful spell as coach of Middlesex, where his innovative methods were not appreciated by some of the English county`s more senior players, helped England in a consultancy role last year as Andrew Strauss`s side regained the Ashes 2-1 on home soil.

England already have one Australian full-time member of their backroom staff in bowling coach David Saker.

It is nearly 25 years since England last won an Ashes series in Australia but they are set to travel `Down Under` later this year with genuine expectation, rather than hope, of ending that particular unwanted record.

An England and Wales Cricket Board spokesman said of Buchanan: "I can confirm that he is coming here this week."

The first Test between England and Australia starts in Brisbane in November.
