BUMPER PAYDAY! This is how much umpires, match referees earned during IPL 2016

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League is not just the biggest T20 league in cricket but also a premier property in world sport.

The salaries paid to players in the IPL are up their with the biggest franchise-based leagues in the world.

Not just players, but umpires and match referees too are paid handsomely by the BCCI for performing their duties in the two-month period.

Indian umpires CK Nandan, Anil Chaudhary and C Shamshuddin were paid close to Rs 4 million (Rs 40 lakh) for officiating in IPL 2016, reports suggested.

Delhi-based Chaudhary took home Rs 39,63, 762.00 (Rs 39.63 lakh) while Nandan and Shamshuddin walked away with Rs 40,83,876 (Rs 40.83 lakh) each.

K N Ananthapadmanabhan was paid Rs 26.65 lakh, while former India pacer Javagal Srinath received Rs 26 lakh (Rs 26,42,508) as match referee during the nineth edition of the cash-rich league.

This is a good step taken by the BCCI. Not just players but every stakeholder should be paid well for doing their duties deligently.

Umpires and referees are under tremendous pressure during high-profile games and deserve the big money they are being paid.
