Mohali: Uncertainty over speedster Ishant Sharma`s availability remained at the end of opening day`s play as the team management couldn`t clarify whether the pacer would be available for the rest of the first Test between India and Australia here.
Ishant, who left the field after bowling 7.4 overs after sustaining a hamstring injury, was sent for an MRI. According to Indian team official Mayank Parikh, the report will only be known tomorrow morning after which the team think-tank will take a call on the pacer`s further participation in the match.
India are playing with four specialist bowlers and if Ishant is ruled out then the trio of Zaheer Khan, Pragyan Ojha and Harbhajan Singh will have to take extra load, with Virender Sehwag chipping in as the fourth bowler.
Ishant struggled for rhythm, conceding 49 runs in 7.4 overs and bowling eight of the nine no-balls that Indian bowlers bowled on the day.
