New Delhi: Delhi Daredevils may have emerged as the team to beat in the IPL so far, but head coach Eric Simmons is not taking anything for granted ahead of their match Deccan Chargers on Thursday.
Chargers languishing at the bottom of the table after three successive defeats whereas the Daredevils are riding high on their success in the fifth edition of the cash-rich T20 league. "In this form of the game, you can`t take anyone lightly... The underdogs have nothing to lose," Simmons said during the pre-match conference at the Feroz Shah Kotla here today. "They (Chargers) are a very good side, they have match winners in their side. We are going to give them respect as a cricket team," the former India bowling coach added. Simmons said they are not worried about what other are thinking about the Daredevils. "Some days things go your way, some days they don`t. So far the tactics have worked well for us. We have been concentration on our games, focusing on our game," Simmons told reporters. While the big guns were expected to fire, it was the unheralded Shabaaz Nadeem who caught the eye with his impressive bowling, and the South African seemed highly impressed. "We knew he has the ability to get the drift and extract turn from the track. He has the (right) attitude and it was his implementation of all those ideas in match situations. "There is still lot left (in the tournament). They have got a lot of left-handers in the side, we are thinking." Delhi have the depth and experience in batting, but Simmons spoke the versatility. "Our batting line-up has been versatile and we want to make full use of that. The last two games we chased, so didn`t get enough scope to experiment." Looking relieved thanks to the team`s consistent showings, Simmons said "to see the attitude of the boys is the most rewarding thing as a coach". While the Chargers are last on the table, the Daredevils are placed second with three wins from four matches. Barring the loss against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Daredevils have won all their matches quite convincingly -- be it over Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings, or Mumbai. PTI
