• Michael Clarke, with his outstanding 130 off 246 balls, has set an Australian record for the highest individual innings as captain against India in India, bettering Ricky Ponting`s 123 at Bangalore in October 2008. • Clarke`s aforesaid innings is the fourth highest by an Australian batsman at M.A.Chidambaram Stadium - the highest being 210 by Dean Jones in September 1986. • Clarke`s above knock is the second highest by a visiting skipper at Chepauk, next only to Imran Khan`s 135 not out for Pakistan in February 1987. • Sachin Tendulkar (71 not out) has registered his 16th fifty against Australia - his 67th in Tests, extending his record. • During the course of his aforesaid innings, Tendulkar has completed his 7000 runs in Tests in India, totalling 7011 at an average of 54.34 in 89 Tests. He is the second batsman to achieve the distinction. Ricky Ponting was the first to accomplish the feat - 7578 at an average of 56.97 in 92 Tests. • Tendulkar is averaging 94.70 in 15 innings at Chepauk - 947 runs, including five centuries and two fifties. • Tendulkar became the second player after England`s Jack Hobbs (3636 in 41 Tests) to complete 3500 runs against Australia in Test Cricket - his run-aggregate being 3509 in 36 Tests, including eleven hundreds. • Virat Kohli`s second fifty (50 not out off 84 balls) against Australia is his sixth in Tests. • Kohli is averaging 56.50 in eight Tests in India - his tally being 565 runs, including two centuries and five fifties. • Virender Sehwag`s Test career average fell below 50 - his aggregate being 8561 at an average of 49.77 in 103 Tests. • Ravichandran Ashwin (7/103) has recorded his best bowling figures in Tests, outstripping the 6 for 31 against New Zealand at Hyderabad in August 2012. • Ashwin has captured 61 wickets at an average of 25.90 in ten home Tests, including six instances of five wickets in an innings and one instance of ten wickets in a Test match. • Ashwin`s excellent performance of 7 for 103 is the third best by an Indian bowler against Australia at Chennai, behind the 8 for 84 by Harbhajan Singh in 2000-01 and 7 for 48 by Anil Kumble in 2004-05. • Ashwin`s above performance is the tenth best at Chepauk. Vinoo Mankad had captured 8 for 55 against England in February 1952 - the best at this venue. His figures are the seventh best by an Indian bowler against Australia - the best ever are 9 for 69 by Jasu Patel at Kanpur in December 1959. PTI
