New Delhi: Playing against Chennai Super Kings has always been the toughest challenge for an Indian franchise. The MS Dhoni-led side, which has a squad comprising world class cricketers, has over the years been a force to reckon with in the shortest format of the game.
But of late, their magic seems to be waning, and if there is one player, who has made them look like a mediocre side, time and again, it's Glenn Maxwell.
Maxwell, who was the most explosove batsman in IPL 2014, ripped apart CSK's formidable bowling attack in the seventh edition and played some hugely entertaining knocks.
In the opening match, he scored 95 runs off 43 balls against Chennai Super Kings. It was an innings which was the start of a phenomenal season for the 25-year-old. In the 29th match of the season, the Australian all-rounder once again played a magnificent knock and hammered 90 runs off just 38 balls. It was the match where Punjab posted a mammoth total of 231- which remained to be the highest total by a team in the season.
Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja have been Dhoni's go-to men in the IPL over the years. But Maxwell pummeled both of them, in a season where he was Kings XI Punjab's key batsman.
His rivalry against Ashwin is hidden from none and it would be interesting to see whether Mahi's Yellow Brigade can limit Maxwell for a low score, or will 'The Big Show' once again enthrall the crowd with his electrifying strokes.
