KINGS XI PUNJAB BEAT BARBADOS TRIDENTS BY FOUR WICKETS

Akshar Patel, David Miller steal the show from Tridents who at one stage looked like going away with the game. Rampaul's 20-run over in the 19th, was the deciding factor. For the Tridents, Nurse and Mendis bowled well but in the end that proved short.

====================================================================================

Over 19.4|| Score 178/6 ( Patel 23, Miller 47)

Akshar Patel shows heroism as he hammers three boundaries and a six off Rampaul's over. Long on, cover and third man targeted by Patel as he picks up 12 runs. Patel then hooks a bouncer for a six. Surely game over this. 20 runs come from the over. Five runs needed from the last over as Miller ends proceedings with a six. Game over!

====================================================================================

Over 18|| Score 150/6 ( Patel 3, Miller 38)

Nurse continues and gets Perera who goes for a golden duck. Another short ball, another pull and Perera departs as he finds Carter. Meanwhile Miller is still there and he is trying his best as he clobbers one for six off the final ball. Holder comes in and gives nine runs with Miller getting a boundary in it.

NLTC Perera c Carter b Nurse 0 (1b)

====================================================================================

Over 16|| Score 128/5 ( Perera 0, Miller 20)

Nurse gives just five runs from the over with Miller hitting a four. He hits it square of short third man to get to the fence. Overall a very good over. Mendis continues and gets the wicket of KXIP skipper George Bailey who departs for seven. He tries to pull one for a maximum but finds Franklin. Tridents on top here. It can go anywhere though.

GJ Bailey c Franklin b Mendis 7 (11b)

====================================================================================

Over 14|| Score 117/4 ( Bailey 3, Miller 13)

Nurse continues and Miller chops one for a boundary through cover. Eight runs come from the over. Mendis continues and gives away just five runs with each of them being singles. He has been the star performer so far.

====================================================================================

Over 12|| Score 104/4 ( Bailey 1, Miller 3)

Nurse comes in and Sehwag hits a shot for four after dancing down the track and hitting through long on in the final ball. Seven runs come from Nurse's over. Mendis gets Sehwag this time in the 12th over for leg before wicket. Two runs come from the over. What a turnaround we are having here.

V Sehwag lbw b Mendis 31 (25b)

====================================================================================

Over 10|| Score 95/3 ( Miller 0, Sehwag 26)

Jeevan Mendis comes in and bowls a decent over just giving away five runs, which included a boundary in it as Maxwell reverse sweeps a ball for a cheeky boundary. Rampaul comes back and gives away two boundaries to Maxwell who hits one through fine leg and the other through mid-wicket. Maxwell departs in the final ball of the over as Rampaul pitches a ball well outside leg stump and teh Aussie flicks it straight to fine leg fielder. KXIP still a notch ahead here but another wicket could change the game.

GJ Maxwell c Nurse b Rampaul 16 (8b)

====================================================================================

Over 8|| Score 76/2 (Maxwell 0, Sehwag 25)

Emrit continues and gives away nine runs from his over. Sehwag smashes one over cover for a four. Franklin gives away a boundary to Saha who helps it through extra-cover. The final ball he gets a wicket with a length ball well outside off, and again the bottom hand comes off as Saha looks to play the ball over point, he can only scoop it to the man in the deep. Crucial wicket for Tridents.

WP Saha c Munaweera b Franklin 14 (13b)

====================================================================================

Over 6|| Score 59/1 (Saha 4, Sehwag 18)

Emrit comes into the attack. Sehwag, just delicately upper cuts for a boundary through the vacant first slip. Eight runs come from the over. Franklin replaces Rampaul and Sehwag smashes him for a six over mid-wicket. Nine runs come from the over as Sehwag looking good in the middle here.

====================================================================================

Over 4|| Score 42/1 (Saha 1, Sehwag 5)

Holder is bowling badly here coupled with some terrible fielding and Tridents look off-coloured. First ball of the over goes for a boundary in the leg side and the third ball the keeper drops a straight-forward chance. It was a chest-high bouncer that is down the legside. Vohra tries to hook but seems to get a glove on it. Perkins is so slow to get to that ball though, and he can't collect cleanly. Vohra slams one to the boundary as Reifer fails to make a stop which he should have. Bad fielding continue to hurt. Rampaul continues and he finally gets Vohra this time. Rampaul cramps him up with a short of a length ball. Vohra tries to slam this over the legside ring, but manages only to get a thick top edge to it. Carter takes the catch. Six runs come from the over.

M Vohra c Carter b Rampaul 27 (19b)

====================================================================================

Over 2|| Score 23/0 (Sehwag 2, Vohra 15)

Holder starts off with the proceedings as Sehwag and Manan Vohra come out to bat. Nine runs come from the first over as Vohra lifts a ball over the boundary for six in the third man region. Rampaul bowls the second over and Vohra slaps a shot over extra-cover for four. It was a no-ball and in the free-hit delivery he goes for a big shot which goes straight to mid-off for a catch. The next ball he gets dropped after Carter and Chigumbura clash while going for the catch. It was a simple lob and a big let off this. Poor fielding from the keeper this time as he fails to hold on to a rising delivery and four byes are gifted as a result. 14 runs come from Rampaul's over.

So we are underway here as KXIP look to get 175 runs from 20 overs.

====================================================================================

So Tridents will be happy with their efforts. 175 runs is what KXIP need from 20 overs. Reifer and Munaweera struck crucial fifties to help them post a big total. Perera bowled well for Punjab with figures of 2/15 in three overs.

====================================================================================

Over 20|| Score 174/6 (Nurse 8, Reifer 60)

Reifer brings up his fifty. What a knock by him in these circumstances. Anureet gives away nine runs from his over that included a four hit by Reifer. Full toss on leg stump in the end. Reifer whips this away square on the leg side with some power and beats fine leg to move to 50. Awana to bowl the last over and he starts off with the wicket of Holder whose attempted heave goes straight to Miller. The next ball is hit for a six by Reifer and Nurse too gets into the act and hits one for the maximum. Poor bowling this as both deliveries were overpitched. Two runs come from the last two deliveries.

JO Holder c Miller b Awana 12 (9b)

====================================================================================

Over 18|| Score 150/5 (Holder 9, Reifer 47)

Perera is on song here. The Lankan international gets Chigumbura who departs for three after trying to go over mid-wicket. Just three runs from the over this is brilliant bowling. Patel continues and gives away 16 runs. This is what Tridents needed. Two sixes come off Patel with both Reifer and Holder getting into the act. The first one was over long on and the next over long off.

E Chigumbura c Anureet Singh b Perera 3 (5b)

====================================================================================

Over 16|| Score 131/4 (Chigumbura 3, Reifer 37)

Another wicket falls and this time it is Franklin. Perera being brought back into the attack with a change of end gets his man. Franklin dispatches Perera for a boundary through mid-wicket before mistiming a pull shot and the ball lofts over for a catch in fine leg with Awana doing the rest. Patel gives away six singles and just four overs left now.

JEC Franklin c Awana b Perera 10 (8b)

====================================================================================

Over 14|| Score 119/3 (Franklin 6, Reifer 32)

Anureet is brought back into the attack and the change pays off as he strikes with the first ball of his second spell. Carter comes down the pitch and hits it straight to Miller at long on. Franklin comes in to bat at No. 5. Three runs come from Anureet's over. Patel comes in place of Perera and gives away 14 runs. He has been costly today. Tridents need to make the last six overs work.

JL Carter c Miller b Anureet Singh 20 (19b)

====================================================================================

Over 12|| Score 106/2 (Reifer 25, Carter 20)

Maxwell continues and Reifer dispatches him for a four and a six off the same over. Brutal hitting this from Reifer. Thisara Perera replaces Karanveer and gives away just six runs with a lucky boundary that comes off his inner edge of the bat. Match nicely poised here.

====================================================================================

Over 10|| Score 87/2 (Reifer 13, Carter 13)

Two decent overs from Maxwell and Karanveer with the latter replacing Sehwag. 14 runs come from these two overs and Carter hits Karanveer for a boundary with an aerial reverse sweep shot.

====================================================================================

Over 8|| Score 73/2 (Reifer 10, Carter 6)

The run-rate has fallen below ten for the first time. Understandable this. KXIP have brought two new bowlers in Maxwell and Sehwag. 10 runs come from Viru's over after Reifer hits him straight over his head for a six. These two need to get in the action here.

====================================================================================

Over 6|| Score 61/2 (Riefer 1, Carter 0)

KXIP have comeback in the game. Akshar Patel is brought in and he gives away 10 runs from his first over. Munaweera lashes him for a four and a six. This is great batting by him. Awana continues and strikes with two wickets in the sixth over. First he gets Perkins who looked plumbed for leg-before off a straight ball. Munaweera brings his fifty off just 25 balls with a boundary after the previous ball being dropped by Vohra. Last ball of the over and Awana strikes. Munaweera departs after he mishits a short of a length ball on about off stump. He tries to heave this away to leg, but gets an under edge, and Vohra holds on this time. What a turnaround here.

EMDY Munaweera c Vohra b Awana 50 (26b)

WKD Perkins lbw b Awana 10 (8b)

====================================================================================

Over 4|| Score 44/0 (Munaweera 34, Perkins 10)

Munaweera has come out with some plan today. He has been middling the ball well and hit Anureet with a sublime scoop shot off a length ball. 10 runs come from the 3rd over. Awana continues with his second over and Perkins is dropped off the first ball by Sehwag after he had edged it to slips. Big let off this. Munaweera hits one over long on for a maximum. Brilliant start this!

====================================================================================

Over 2|| Score 24/0 (Munaweera 15, Perkins 9)

Good positive start by Barbados here. Awana and Anureet Singh have been dispatched to the boundary by both batsmen with Munaweera taking the initiative. Awana gave away 14 runs in the second over with both batsmen hitting him for three boundaries.

====================================================================================

KXIP win the toss and elect to field first.

fter launching their campaign on a winning note, IPL finalists Kings XI Punjab will look to dish out another dominating performance when they face the formidable Barbados Tridents in a Group B match of the Oppo Champions League twenty20 here on Saturday.

The Kings XI came into the tournament on the back of a successful IPL season and they continued with their aggressive brand of cricket, defeating Hobart Hurricanes by five wickets with more than two overs to spare last night.

It was once again a power-packed innings by Australia's Glenn Maxwell, the third highest run scorer in IPL 7, which guided Kings XI home, while skipper George Bailey too chipped in with 27-ball 34 at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium.

However, Bailey will be a little worried about their top order which contributed just 51 with Virender Sehwag and David Miller returning to the pavilion without opening their accounts.

Barbados Tridents, on the other hand, are coming into the tournament after winning the Caribbean Premier League and they are one of the most formidable sides in the tournament, which also features teams from Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Pakistan.

However, the tridents will be without the services of three of their top players -- Kieron Pollard, Shoaib Malik and Dwayne Smith -- who have chosen to play for other teams in the tournament.
