New Delhi: Gautam Gambhir, the skipper of reigning IPL champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), wants to gain the early momentum in their Champions League Twenty20 campaign.
KKR, the Kolkata based IPL franchise, is known for their comebacks in the cash rich league. It has a knack of gaining the winning momentum later in the tournament. But this time, their skipper is in no mood to play the catch-up game in the sixth edition of CLT20.
"We can always make a comeback (in IPL) when you don't start off well as the tournament is two month long. But CLT20 is a short a format and you got to be off the mark as soon as possible. You can't wait for the things to happen, you have to be on the button. There is very less chance of coming back,” Gambhir told reporters.
In the opening match of CLT20, KKR will be up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on September 17 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad.
"Come 17th, we should be up for it. We didn't start well in IPL but we turned it later on ended up winning the tourney. But this is different. If we can start off well, we can reduce lot of pressure from our shoulders," added the southpaw.
It would certainly be a cracker of a match, as both the teams are looking solid on papers and are at par with each other in every department.
MS Dhoni-led CSK have won the title in 2010. But if KKR manage to lift the CLT20 trophy, it would be their maiden one.
