Cricket fraternity lauds Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara as legends end ODI career

New Delhi: The cricketing world enters another sad day as Sri Lankan legends Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakkara bid adieu to the game after serving for more than 15 years. Sri Lanka ended their campaign on Wednesday in the on going ICC 2015 Cricket World up after losing to South Africa by nine wickets in the quarter-finals.

The duo have been the batting pillars for the Asian giants and a big void is expected to be created in the Sri Lankan team. Both Mahela and Sangakkara are considered to amongst the greatest batsmen of modern day cricket in both formats of the game. Sri Lanka's success in ODIs have a lot to owe to these batting maestros.

Everybody in the cricket family including the fans have been treated to watch the legends bat on and on and win matches after matches for their team. Records, statistics presented a big picture of their batting alongside the masterclass strokes that were played to catch the eye of everybody.

Sangakkara who has been the 2015 World Cup's best batsman so far, notched up a whooping 514 runs including four back to back tons.

Sangakkara has scored 14234 runs in ODI cricket while Mahela too notched up 12650 runs. They scored close to 46 ODI centuries collectively and 170 half centuries to show their dominance in the game.

Cricketing fraternity lauded the duo and wished them for their illustrious ODI career. There were also sadness amongst many to see the legends depart.

They expressed their view through social micro-blogging site, Twitter.
