Current Indian team is best ever

Former India captain Anil Kumble feels the current team is the best ever and has all the ingredients needed to be a great one-day unit.

We at bring you the excerpts.

“In terms of confidence and balance of the side, this is the best Indian team ever,” Kumble said.

“If you look at the track record of this team in last one year or one and half year they have done exceptionally well, especially at home. They have all the elements that a great one-day side needs,” he added.

The legendary leg-spinner also said the present team led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a far more superior side than the one under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy during 2003 World Cup that took place in South Africa.

“It is a better team overall than 2003. In terms of balance and conditions here (sub-continent) this is the better side,” Kumble was quoted as saying.

He, however, added that some bowlers like Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra were much younger then and could generate more pace.

“But if you go back to 2003 then Ashish Nehra, Zaheer and all these bowlers were younger and were bowling at the speed of 140 which does not happen now.”

Kumble, who is now the President of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), said it was the fighting spirit of this bunch of players that has bowled him over.

“What has impressed me most is how they have won in losing situations.”

“In South Africa, Munaf Patel won one match, Yusuf Pathan won a game, so it’s not a one man team at all,” said Kumble.
