Delhi staring at innings defeat against Gujarat
Valsad: Hosts Gujarat will be aiming for an innings victory against Delhi going into the final day of their second round Elite Group Ranji Trophy match.
Starting the day at 118 for three, Delhi were all out for 233 in their first innings. Adding insult to injury, Gujarat skipper Parthiv Patel asked Mithun Manhas and co to follow on and at stumps they were 170 for five still 117 runs behind Gujarat`s first innings score of 520.
Save Unmukt Chand (93, 12x4), who missed out on what would have been his second first-class century by seven runs, none of the Delhi batsmen applied themselves on a track which was good for batting. In fact Delhi lost their last six wickets in the first innings for 39 runs as they were shot our 233 when they were 194 for four at one stage.
Part-time medium pacer Priyank Panchal got three wickets without conceding a single run in 2.1 overs polishing off the tail in style.
With a deficit of 287 runs, Delhi were struck twin blow when medium pacer Ishwar Chaudhary removed senior opener Shikhar Dhawan (0) and Milind Kumar (1) in quick succession.
While Dhawan edged one to Parthiv behind stumps, Milind was caught by Salil Yadav of Chaudhary.
Unmukt (77) was again at his free-flowing best as he hit 16 boundaries off only 79 balls but failed to convert his start to a bigger score. He added 91 runs with skipper Mithun Manhas who is batting on 50 and has to play a major role in averting innings defeat.
Just when it looked that the duo would pose some challenge, Unmukt edged one off Chaudhary to Parthiv. Yogesh Nagar (9) was bowled by leg-break bowler Yadav while Panchal accounted for wicketkeeper Puneet Bisht (24, 6x4) who scored all his runs in boundaries.
