New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) felicitated former Indian skipper Dilip Vengsarkar on Friday by honouring him with the C K Nayudu Lifetime achievement award, for his contribution to Indian cricket.
On the occasion, Indian speedster Bhuvneshwar Kumar and opener Rohit Sharma, were also rewarded for their outstanding performances in the season. Bhuvi received the Polly Umrigar award along with a cheque of Rs 5 lakh, whereas, Sharma received a special award for his record-breaking knock of 264 in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka in the recently concluded series.
Vengsarkar was a member of the World Cup winning team in 1983 and the World Championship of Cricket in 1985.
The 58-year-old led the Team India in 10 Tests in 1987-89 and represented the country in 116 Test matches.
He also contributed off the field by becoming the Chairman of the BCCI's Talent Research Development Committee for three years. Between 2006 to 2008 he was also the chairman of the All-India Senior Selection Committee.
Jammu-Kashmir cricketer Parvez Rasool was rewarded with Lala Amarnath award for best all-rounder in Ranji Trophy.
