Baroda-Orissa Ranji tie ends in a draw
Cuttack: Ambati Rayudu scored an unbeaten 200 as Baroda put up a much better show in their second innings but it was Orissa that grabbed three points from the drawn Ranji Trophy Elite Group match on the basis of their first-innings lead, here on Thursday.
Baroda were all out for 148 in their first innings and in reply, Orissa had scored 352.
Trailing by a huge 204-run margin, Baroda piled up an impressive 414 for six in their second essay, adding 332 runs to its overnight 82 for one, as Rayudu batted magnificently.
Rayudu’s 200 included 27 hits to the fence and three over it as he stuck around for 287 minutes till close of the match, facing 255 balls as the visitors reponded with grit in a tough situation.
Opener C R Williams also chipped in with his 57, aided by eight boundaries in 233 minutes facing 162 balls before being caught by B B Samantray off Dhiraj S Singh.
Yusuf Pathan scored 27 and captain P Shah 31, while A R Chauhan remained not out with 28.
J A Kolsawala had contributed 45 runs yesterday before falling to Basant Mohanty’s pace attack when Govind Poddar took a nice catch.
For Orissa, Dhiraj Singh captured three wickets, while Debasis Mohanty, Basant Mohanty and Rakesh Mohanty picked up one wicket each.
