BCCI distances itself from GPL

New Delhi: The second edition of the Goa Premier League (GPL) on Thursday hit a roadblock with the BCCI not granting official recognition to the tournament, saying disciplinary action would be taken against those participating in the event.

The BCCI’s decision came after the Goa Cricket Association refused to give green signal to the tournament, which made its debut last year in both Twenty20 and three-day league formats.

“The Goa Premier League has not been recognised by the Goa Cricket Association and neither has BCCI’s permission been obtained for the same,” chief administrator of BCCI, Rantakar Shetty said in a statement.

“All the players and officials participating in this tournament will face disciplinary action,” he said.
