Bowlers dominate on day one of Assam-Saurashtra tie
Rajkot: Assam let slip the advantage after bowling out Saurashtra for a paltry 140 on day one of their Super League Ranji Trophy encounter at the Khandheri Cricket Stadium here today.
At stumps, Assam were 107 for seven with Sarupam Purkayastha and Abu Nechim Ahmed batting on 23 and eight, respectively.
Earlier, the hosts after opting to bat first, were off to a bad start losing Sagar Jogiyani for four in the day`s fifth over.
The Assam bowling attack comprising Tarjinder Singh, Arlen Konwar, Purkayastha and Nechim continued the good work, and barring Sithanshu Kotak (44), none of the Saurashtra batsmen could make any impact.
Tarjinder led the pack for Assam picking up three wickets while Konwar, Ahmed and Purkayastha claimed two wickets each.
Chirag Pathak and Ravindra Jadeja wasted their starts to leave the hosts in a spot of bother in this must-win game.
The hosts, however, struck back through their bowlers with Jadeja and Kamlesh Makvana being the wreckers in chief. Both claimed three wickets each as Assam found themselves in a tricky 107 for seven at close.
