Fazal-Bangar put Rlwys in comfy position against Saurashtra

Rajkot: A magnificent century from opening batsman Faiz Fazal and his 154 runs association for second wicket with experienced Sanjay Bangar (79 not out) helped former champions Railways in comfortable position when they made 233 for the loss of four wickets on the opening day of Elite division Ranji Trophy tie against Saurashtra here at SCA stadium Khandheri.

Opting to bat after winning the toss, Railways did not have a good start losing opener V Chelveraj (14) early but one down Sanjay Bangar then joined hands with Fazal who was batting confidently and the duo stitched 154 runs together for the second wicket before Fazal after completing his hundred got out of Makwana.

Fazal made 107 spending 305 minutes at the crease facing 229 balls with 14 fours and one six. While Bangar`s patient knock of 79 came of 221 balls with 12 fours and a six.

However Railways were seen losing the platform set up by Fazal and Bangar when they lost two wickets quickly in the form of Prashant Awasthi (13) and Yere Gaud (4). Captain Murli Karthik (6) was giving Bangar a company when stumps were drawn for the day.

For Saurashtra Left Arm medium pacer Jaydev Unadkat and off spinner Kamlesh Makwana could leave the impression by taking two wickets each giving away 39 and 67 runs respectively.
