Gujarat struggle against Tamil Nadu after late start

Chennai: On a rain-truncated day, Tamil Nadu gained the initiative by reducing Gujarat to 69 for four in the 42 overs of play possible on day one of their Super League Ranji Trophy here today.

Opting to bat first after the match started in the post-lunch session, Gujarat lost openers Rikin Chauhan (2) and Priyank Panchal (11) early.

Despite coming off an impressive show in the final one-dayer against New Zealand, skipper Parthiv Patel went back early falling prey to Ravichandran Ashwin`s guile to leaving Gujarat struggling at 59 for three.

With Bhavin Thakur (4) making an early exit being caught by Subramaniam Badrinath off Suresh Kumar, it soon became 64 for four.

When rain interrupted play, Niraj Kumar (26) and Prathmesh Pamar who was yet to open his account, were at the crease.

For Tamil Nadu, Suresh Kumar (two for 20), Ashwin (one for 19) and R Satish (one for four) did the damage.
