Match ends in draw, Vidarbha stole the limelight

Perinthalmanna: Opening batsman Amit Deshpande’s laborious 68and his crucial 83 runs seventh wicket partnership with Ravi Jingid 28 not out in 309 deliveries enabled Vidarbha to hold Kerala to a draw in their Ranji trophy Plate League match,on the concluding day here on Saturday.

Even though Kerala captain Robert Fernandez, had used nine bowlers, Vidarbha batsmen rose to great heights to help their side score 139/8 and draw the match.

Vidarbha, resuming at their overnight score of 6 for 1, did not do well as they lost wickets very cheaply and were reeling under pressure at 8/3.

However, overnight not out Deshpande and Ranjit Paradkar (30) did the repair work and took the total slowly to 45, before the latter was dismised by Rohan Prem, with the sides total at 45/4.

Rohan was against in action when he struck twice removing H Joshi and A Paunikar, both without any score and Vidarbha plunged into deep trouble at 49/6.

However, Deshpande and Jangid, put their heads down and defended stoutly each delivery and did not give the Kerala bowlers any chance to break the partnership.

Though Kerala succeded in dismissing Deshpande, after scoring 68 in 261 balls, Vidarbha tailenders successfully denied Kerala an outright win.

Having taken the first innings lead Kerala got three points and Vidarbha one point.

With this Kerala’s points tally had gone upto to 9 from three matches.
