North in command vs West in Duleep Trophy semis

Vadodara: North Zone were in a commanding position against West at stumps on the second day of their Duleep Trophy semi-final being played at the Moti Baug ground in Vadodara.

The West now face an uphill task of avoiding follow-on as they still require 135 runs as they are tottering at 176 for five. North Zone scored 460 in their first essay.

Delhi medium pacer Sumit Narwal was pick of the bowlers grabbing three for 34 in his 11 over spell. Joginder Sharma and skipper Amit Mishra got a wicket each.

West at one stage were reeling at 63 for four in 17.1 overs before veteran Wasim Jaffer (53) and Ravindra Jadeja (62 batting) added 107 runs for the fifth wicket.

West skipper Jaffer was finally out when Shikhar Dhawan took a smart catch off Mishra`s bowling. Jaffer hit seven fours and a six in his 65-ball knock. He was at the crease for 117 minutes.

West now pin their hopes on Jadeja and Pinal Shah. Jadeja`s innings was studded with 10 boundaries and a six after facing 86 deliveries during his 103-minute stay at the crease.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 315 for 5, North added another 145 runs courtesy a 124-run sixth wicket partnership between Amit Mishra (48) and Uday Kaul (89).

Jaidev Unadkat and Samad Fallah grabbed four wickets apiece.
