Mumbai vs Saurashtra, Ranji Trophy Final, Day 1: As it happened...

Mumbai will be looking to seal their 40th Ranji title with a win against a depleted Saurashtra in the finals at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.

MUMBAI Overs: 8 II Score: 19/0 (Jaffer: 11*, K Pawar: 4* ) Mumbai end day 1 at 19 for no loss. Mumbai will be looking to build a huge 1st innings total to put pressure on the depleted Saurashtra side. ==================================================================================== MUMBAI Overs: 7 II Score: 17/0 (Jaffer: 10*, K Pawar: 4* ) Mumbai have started well. The ball is moving around a little and Unadkat and Trivedi have made the ball talk. The Mumbai batsmen have done well though to not lose any wicket. The experienced Jaffer and Pawar have both hit a boundary each. Abhishek Nayar picked up wickets at crucial stages to make sure Saurashtra could never rebuild to get a decent total on the board. Agarkar has bowled well and is causing problems for the batsmen. Vasavada has shown a lot of patience and he needs to continue if Saurashtra are to reach a respectable first innings total. It’s been Mumbai’s session this morning. Their bowlers have been very accurate and have made the most of this track. Dhawal Kulkarni was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3 for 11. Saurashtra will be very disappointed with the session so far. They have lost wickets all too quickly. The ball was bowled on off stump and Jackson poked at it only managing to get a faint edge through to the keeper Tare. This one from Dabholkar went straight with the arm and didn’t turn as Kotak expected it to and Jaffer took an easy catch at slip. The in form Jackson has walked out to the middle. Saurashtra need a special knock from this man. Vasavada’s miscued shot gets him four runs in between slip and gully and Kotak hit a beautiful cover drive off Agarkar for four runs. Spin has been introduced for the first time in this match. Vishal Dabholkar will be looking to keep up the pressure on the batsmen. Kulkarni trying another short one was the batsman was up to the mark. He pulled it with ease to the boundary. Big appeal from Kulkarni for leg before wicket but Kotak survives. Batsmen looking a lot settled now. Saurashtra have got past these five overs without losing a wicket. Runs have been very hard to come by. Kotak gets a boundary off Thakur who strays on the pads once. Agarkar and Tendulkar having a long chat about the field placement. The pitch has played well so far with good bounce and fair carry to the wicket keeper. Dave gets out to a short one from Dhawal Kulkarni. Dave cannot control the bounce and he gets some bat to it which is taken at slip by Chavan. Saurashtra are in deep trouble now. Vasavada comes to the crease now to replace Dave.
