Hundreds by Irfan Pathan, Waghmode lift Baroda to 308/4Vadodara: Irfan Pathan and Aditya Waghmode hit contrasting centuries as Baroda piled up an impressive 308 for four against Karnataka on day one of their Ranji Trophy Group B match at Moti Bagh Stadium, here on Friday.

The home side was in a spot of bother after being put into bat as they had lost four wickets for 88 runs at one stage but Pathan and opener Waghmode dug in and rescued the side.

Pathan was more aggressive of the two unbeaten batsmen at the end of the day as the left-handed all rounder took 155 balls for his 105-run knock, studded with 16 boundaries, including four sixes.

Waghmode`s though was a sedate knock as he took 262 balls for his 121, which contained 16 fours and two sixes.

The two-left handers have put on a 220-runs for the unbroken fifth-wicket stand so far.

R Vinay Kumar had provided Karnataka a good start by trapping Kedar Devdhar (2) in the ninth over of the day. Abhimanyu Chauhan (6) met the same fate off the bowling of Stuart Binny.

Ambati Rayudu (14) also did not last long as he became a victim of KP Apanna to leave the side reeling at 40 for three.

Baroda skipper Yusuf Pathan (24) did not help his side much as he became the second victim of Binny.

However, Waghmode was holding the one end strongly and found an able partner in Pathan and together they drove the side to a good position.

Brief Score:

Baroda: 308 for four in 90 overs. (Aditya Waghmode 121 batting, Irfan Pathan 105 batting; S Binny 2/30).
