Shukla guides Bengal to a thrilling one-run victory

Agartala: Former Bengal captain Laxmi Ratan Shukla guided last year’s finalists to thrilling one-run victory over Orissa in a Zonal one day match for the Vijay Hazare Trophy at the MBB Stadium here today.

Shukla who bowled the 50th over castled Aloke Mangaraj (3) with the fourth delivery as Orissa were all out for 216 requiring 218 for an upset win.

Opting to bat, Bengal batsmen barring skipper Manoj Tiwary (88, 10x4), couldn’t score big on a slow track. Tiwary shared two vital partnerships, 55 for the third wicket with Arindam Das (41) and 75 runs for the sixth wicket with Shukla (34).

Orissa were cruising comfortably at the end of thr 45th over with scorecard reading 200 for six. Among the Bengal bowlers, Mohammed Sami Ahmed who made his List A debut scalped three for 39 while veteran Shukla also chipped in with three wickets.
