Delhi, Haryana score third win on trot
New Delhi: Captain Mithun Manhas and Puneet Mehra shared an unbeaten 80-run stand to help Delhi score an easy seven-wicket victory over Punjab and notch up their third successive win in the Twenty20 match of the North Zone Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Chasing a modest target of 138, Delhi scored at a decent pace but lost their three top-order batsmen by the eighth over at 58 before Manhas (39 not out) and Mehra (39 not out) took the home side to victory with eight balls to spare.
Opener Puneet Bisht had given a rollicking start to Delhi`s run-chase with a 10-ball 22 which he made with the help of four fours and a six before being dismissed in the third over.
Rajat Bhatia (5) and other opener Chetan Sharma (25) were out in the space of two overs before Manhas and Mehra`s unbroken fourth-wicket stand of 80 runs from 11 overs.
Earlier, opting to bat, Punjab posted 137 for six with main contribution from opener Sarul Kanwar (31) and Karan Goel (30 not out) at the Model Sports Complex at Palam.
With their third win on the trot, Delhi are on joint top with Haryana on 12 points among the six teams while Punjab are at fourth with a win and two losses.
In another match at the same complex, Haryana crushed Jammu and Kashmir by nine wickets with India player Amit Mishra spinning them to their third win on the trot with a five wicket haul for 19 runs.
Haryana`s other leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal claimed three for 11 as his side bundled out Jammu and Kashmir, who elected to bat, for a mere 82 in 17.2 overs.
Opener Rahul Dewan led the Haryana run chase with an unbeaten 44 to surpass the target in just 13.2 overs.
Jammu and Kashmir are yet to open their account in the tournament having lost all their three matches.
