Chennai: Karnataka skipper Robin Uthappa made a 29-ball 59 after Stuart Binny claimed three for 14 to score a eight wicket win with 19 balls to spare over Tamil Nadu in the South Zone T-20 cricket match for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on Tuesday.
Karnataka now leads the point table with 12 points.
Put in to bat, Tamil Nadu mustered 131 for nine in 20 overs with K. Dinesh Karthik (52-- 33b, 4 x 4, 3 x 6) and K.Shrivasudevadas (30 not out--18b, 3 x 4, 1 x 6) batting well. For Karnataka, Stuart Binny (three for 14) and K.P.Appanna (two for 27) were the main wicket-takers.
In reply, Robin Uthappa top scored with 59 (29b, 7x4, 3x6) and put on 77 runs in 46 balls for the first wicket with Mayanlk Agarwal (15). Then, Bharath Chipli?s unbeaten 38 (29b, 7x4) and his stand of 58 runs in 54 balls for the unfinished third wicket with Ganesh Satish (18not out) enabled Karnataka to make 135 for two in 16.5 overs.
In the match between Goa and Hyderabad, the former opted to bat first and were all out for130 in 19.2 overs. Goa’s Abhiushek Raut (31) and V.Vasanth Saravanan (26,3x4) were the main scorers, while Hyderabad Syed Ahmed Quadri (3 for 25),
Ashish Reddy (2 for 19) and Amol Shine (2 for 17) were the chief wicket takers.
In reply, first wicket pair of T.Suman (45 not out-4x4, 1x6) and Captain D.B.Ravi Teja (68 not out-49b, 10x4, 1x6) put on 103 in 79 balls to help Hyderabad make 131 for one in 17.2 overs and achieve a nine wicket win and 16 balls to spare.
The match between Kerala and Andhra was declared as drawn as a downpour rendered the pitch and outfield water logged and the teams were awarded two points each. Kerala has tallied six from three matches and Andhra two from as many matches.
Kerala won the toss and chose to field and after 3.1 overs Andhra were 18 no loss and at that stage the match was suspended due to heavy rain. After three inspections the umpires decided to call off the match.
